Adjarian village 16 kilometers from Batumi, famous for its beautiful beach and the Georgian-Turkish border crossing. The azure sea surface and salubrious air invariably attract vacationers. From here you can easily go to Turkey.
The originality of the rest
Sarpi and the nearby villages, Kvariati and Gonio boast beaches with mountainous landscapes. It is advertised in guidebooks as a beach with views of Turkey's mosques. True, only one mosque is visible here, but it most clearly indicates that the neighboring country is literally within easy reach: Regularly, five times a day, the “chants” of the local mullah are heard. The locals are used to it, and this adds “exoticism” to vacationers. The Sarpi checkpoint is located right at the edge of the town. Turkey can be reached on foot. Crossing the Sarpi checkpoint to Turkey will take from one to several hours, depending on the queues at the border. Being with Sarpi you fully feel that you are in a border town. After all, all passenger and transport passes along the main road separating the residential area from the beach.
Sarpi beach
The pebbly beach, about 600 meters long, has the shape of a crescent, which is symbolic given the white crescent on the red flag of Turkey. The water is so clean and transparent that every pebble at the bottom is visible, and such an unusual turquoise-azure color that thoughts arise about the discrepancy between the name of the Black Sea. But vacationers with children should definitely take into account that shallow water is only on a narrow part of the water surface, a depth of about four meters is already human height - this is a common moment for Adjarian beaches.
Vacationers who have explored many Georgian beaches consider the local one to be one of the best. And you should especially trust the opinion of local residents who come here to the beach (including from Batumi with its long coastal zone).
Under the USSR, it was a closed border area, only villagers were allowed through, outsiders needed special permission. And for the last quarter of a century, access has been open here. Here you can meet many foreigners from the near (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey) and far abroad.
Although there are no markings along the coastline, the “watchful eye” of border guards on both sides and the cruise boat of the coast guard strictly monitor the observance of order. Only dolphins, sometimes swimming to the shore, can “break” it. Then you will be lucky enough to see a small performance performed by these amazing animals.
Attractions Sarpi
The main attraction is the border checkpoint. On the Georgian side, this is a peculiar, one might say, futuristic building. Someone sees in his form waves running into each other, and the majority - "the key to Europe." It is no coincidence that the flag of the European Union flies next to the national flag of Georgia.
At 700 meters, along the highway to Batumi, there is a monument to St. Andrew the First-Called. According to legend, it was he who built the first Orthodox church in Georgia and ordained the first priests. The size of the statue is impressive, and right next to it is a waterfall.
Almost next to the beach, a temple of St. Andrew the First-Called was recently built.
Of course, some consider the presence of busy customs and an almost constant line of cars on the highway passing directly above the beach as a minus. The eyes of vacationers are directed mainly towards the sea, but they will have to cross the busy road. Calling Sarpi an excellent place to relax will not work just because of being near the border, but it’s quite possible to stay for a couple of days.
Entertainment
Sarpi is also not suitable for a relaxing family vacation at sea. The beach in the northern part rests on a small rocky area. Cliff jumping is a very popular pastime for daredevils.
The rocks separate the beach areas of Sarpi and Kvariati, you can even walk along the coast. There is the only Concord diving center in Georgia so far, which provides opportunities for a wonderful pastime for lovers of scuba diving and photo hunting.
In the water area, several ships were deliberately sunk, which now serve as artificial reefs for populations of marine life. A long underwater rocky area, referred to as "stone alleys", was also explored. Anyone can make a trial dive accompanied by a qualified diving instructor.
Anglers will also be able to join their favorite pastime: experts recommend excellent sea fishing.
You can rent scooters, water bikes, "bananas" and ride along the coast.
The infrastructure is absolutely suitable for recreation: there are several colorful thatched cafes right on the coast, there are shops and cafes in the village. Of course, there are few entertainment venues and they are far from the fashionableness of Batumi, but Batumi is very close, so you can go there “for spectacles”, at least every day.
How to get to Sarpi
Minibuses depart from Tbilisi Square to Batumi every 10 minutes, the fare is 1 lari, the trip will take 20-25 minutes. Or a taxi - about 25 GEL.
